Affordable Housing Internship and Stipend Available

Bruce Decker, who worked with Create Huntington on the development of a strategic plan recently started some work with CommunityWorks in West Virginia, Inc. to coordinate their Affordable Housing Internship Program. They have stipends available for 15 (total) graduate students for the Summer and Fall of 2010. The stipends are in the amount of $4,000 – $5,000 (depending on location in the state) for the Summer and Fall semester.

This opportunity is funded by the Benedum Foundation with the goal of offering student internships in order to prepare a future workforce for West Virginia housing agencies.

Bruce is starting to recruit both students and housing/housing related organizations for this opportunity.

Here is the some information regarding both:

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR INTERNS

  • Graduate Student enrolled in public administration, business, or social service program.
  • Good academic standing, preferably a 3.0 or better.
  • Demonstrated interest in public service.
  • Recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Flexibility as to location of internship.
  • Students learning goals can be matched to eligible sponsoring agencies.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SPONSORING AGENCIES

  • Commitment to the learning goals of the student.
  • Plan of work and training.
  • Extra learning experiences, workshops, etc.
  • Pay sponsor participation fee of $500
  • Provide extra incentives such as housing, etc.
