Home Sweet Home

At the Create Huntington summit on Monday evening, speaker Vaughn Grisham really helped me to “re-open” my eyes and see our city in a fresh new way. He said that Huntington already has so much going for it that other communities can only dream about having. We have a gorgeous and historic downtown with amazing architecture which is teeming with potential. We have beautiful parks filled with majestic one hundred year old trees, disc golf courses and walking trails.

Don Daniel McMillian, Noted Local Author

In 1991, Mr. McMillian returned home to Huntington WV due to his mothers’ illness and her need to have family close by. It changed his path in life forever. There were few Interior Design jobs in Huntington. Don donated time to the Cabell County Commission to prepare special State and Federal Grants to repair the building and clock tower for its 100th anniversary, researching the history of Huntington and Cabell County in the process.

Trails Abound

Last summer some friends of mine convinced me to give Mountain Biking a try. I hadn’t really rode a bike much since I was about 16 so I was pretty darn nervous that first day on the trails. Fortunately for me there are a wide variety of trails within a short distance of downtown Huntington so I didn’t have to jump on a difficult “black diamond” rated trail as an initiation.

Waking with the River

I’ve lived in a few different cities that boast a river but I’ve never been so lucky as to live right along the shores. However, thanks to the affordable nature of real estate in Huntington I am truly lucky to be able to enjoy not only the amenities city living has to offer but I also get to enjoy a more personal relationship with the natural beauty that fills this region.
