Andrés Saborío, a guitarist from Costa Rica, will give a recital on Marshall University’s Huntington campus Sunday, March 7. The recital will take place at 8 p.m. in the Smith Recital Hall.
Regarded as one of the outstanding Costa Rican guitarists of his generation, Saborío began to study guitar in 1996 and immediately decided to dedicate his studies and life’s work entirely to music. That decision took him to the University of Costa Rica and later to Indiana University, where he earned his master’s degree in 2005.

Marshall University’s 41st Annual Jazz Festival, which will take place Jan. 28, 29 and 30, will feature guest artists Bob Thompson, pianist, and Greg Abate, saxophonist. Thompson and Abate will perform, adjudicate school ensembles and present clinic sessions as part of the festival.

A Marshall University faculty recital by flutist Dr. Wendell Dobbs and guitarist Julio Alves Thursday, Jan. 21, will feature new instruments the players acquired during the holiday break.
Dobbs will perform on a flute created by Chris Abell of Ashville, N. C., while Alves will perform on his new guitar made by John H. Dick of West Branch, Ia. Fall registration for “Time For Music,” a popular program formerly known as “Grow With Music,” is underway. A discount applies to registrations that take place on or before Aug. 1, according to Joni Pappas, director of the program, which is offered through the Speech and Hearing Clinic at Marshall University. Sessions begin the week of Aug. 24.
