I try to keep my finger on the pulse of Huntington but I have to be honest with you – I’m not very good at it. There is so much going on and there are so many cool things in and around Huntington that I can’t possibly know about it all. Instead I just know about the things I am helping with or the things others tell me about. Because of my lack of breadth of knowledge this site’s content can really suffer. It needs more …

First and foremost I want to point out that the comprehensive event calendar is now pulling in event information directly from Marshall University as well as the various other sources currently aggregated. This adds another great and rich resource so that you can never say you didn’t know something was happening in or around town. There are currently over 3200 events in the calendar pulled in from 17 different event calendars from around town including the Herald Dispatch calendar and the Huntington Museum of Art. If you have …

The 2009 Create West Virginia Conference is coming to Huntington and will be here from Oct 18-20th. The conference will feature seven amazing tracks so there is sure to be a topic covered for everyone. One of the tracks, Community Projects Track, will actually focus on the great work being done by the people with Create Huntington. In this track, instead of normal session where everyone sits in a room and listens/talks/learns, participants will be taken out into the community to see how different projects are …

I have added a new section to the website, Events, that has a fairly comprehensive look at the events going on in and around Huntington 90 days into the future. Just click on the “Events” link at the top of the page. Eventually this calendar will be enhanced to include events from other online event calendars as well. The events page currently aggregates events from a variety of other calendars so you should get a good cross section of everything that is going on.
If you are curious …

One of my favorite things about WV is the helpfulness of people. As a prime example I can point out this website. Initially, Lawerence Fine, of Charleston, setup this site for me and customized the look and feel to have the nice Huntington/Marshall green colors. Next I decided I needed a logo for the site that we could use that would help distinguish it a little and give a feel for Huntington all in one image. I spoke with a member of the Art department at Marshall and he put …

Thanks to the helpful and forward thinking people at the Herald Dispatch the event calendar on the site is a much more useful tool. If you visit any page of the site and look down the right hand sidebar you will see “Today’s Events” listed.
If you ever thought there was nothing going on around Huntington then you haven’t checked out our city’s Calendar. You can also see what’s coming up by visiting http://elmcity.cloudapp.net/services/whyhuntington/html. Right now the calendar really only shows detailed data 30 days …

Here is the audio from my WMUL interview where I try to explain the website Why Huntington WV and how excited I am about the future of our city thanks to the efforts of those in Create Huntington. Just hit the play button on the embedded player (thanks to Yahoo!). Or, if you prefer, you can download the mp3 and listen to it at your leisure.

Tonight I’ll be on WMUL 88.1 for a half hour long interview about Why Huntington and Create Huntington on the show “On The Table.” Normally they broadcast the interviews live but, because I wouldn’t be available tonight they let me come in and tape the interview last night. It was a lot of fun. I hope you all get a chance to hear the interview; if you do please let me know what you think. I have a tendency to say outrageous things so I apologize …

If you are a blogger in the Huntington area I’d love to know about it. Undoubtedly you are talking about things going on in and around Huntington so it would be fantastic to be able to see what others have to say. There is a site called 304 bloggers but it includes bloggers from all over the state and I’d really like to find some focused more on the Huntington area.
I am setting up a feed of all the posts about Huntington going on via the website FriendFeed …

If you have a story about what’s great about Huntington, or why you choose to live here, or why you moved here in the first place we would love to hear it. You can share it with us in any number of ways; via email at why@whyhuntington.com, via this sites contact form, or you can meet me in person this weekend at Ritter Park near the picnic tables. We will be having a meet-n-write event at 2pm on Sunday March 22nd.
At the event folks from all over the …
