Google Fiber For Huntington

BY: Why Huntington 3 March 2010 318 views View Comments

Google Inc. – the Internet Search Giant – is planning an audacious move into providing home internet service to various communities throughout the country.  However, like all things Google, they want to do things a bit different – and in this case that difference is SPEED.  Most people in the area get downloads speeds between 1-3Mb per second if they have broadband – but Google wants to offer 100Gb/s – that’s a HUGE jump in speed.  They are going to do this by deploying fiber-optic lines along side the old copper that is already going to our homes.  A lot more data can travel over the fiber than can the copper.
However, Google hasn’t decided where they are going to install this new service yet; instead they are letting communities invite Google to come in and then they will pick from the communities that ask for it.  Thus, we are asking!  However, we need as many people within the community as possible to ask as well and for that we need you and all of your friends to get involved and  I’m asking you to please go to http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/public/options and fill out the “nominate your community” form.

NOTE: this doesn’t seem to work in IE so please use firefox, chrome, safari, or opera when going to the site.

I encourage you to also use the address, http://sites.google.com/site/huntingtonwvfiber/  ,  in the “web link to supporting material” field.  The huntingtonwvfiber site is new and  is getting updated with supporting material as it is created (so far not much as been).  Please visit that site also and see if you can find a creative way to show Google how much this great service would mean to you and our community!
Finally, please pass this on to anyone and everyone you can think of.
